Christmas Party

Last night my boss Amir had the team over for dinner to celebrate Christmas and also to be a kind of send off for me going back to Canada.  I tried to get him to take us out for dinner, but he was bound and determined to cook some of the venison he received from Ricky. Ricky works in maintenance here at Inoac.  He is an avid hunter....from deer to frogs and turtles! If it moves, Ricky will kill it... and eat it.  Amir knowing I am not a huge fan of deer meat also made some chicken.  I decided that I would bring dessert and I made cookies and cake balls!

Since Amir was not going to be at work next week, the team and I decided...ok, I decided for the team that we would celebrate Amir's birthday as well.  So I appointed myself the task of getting him a gift.  About a month ago, I happened to be perusing this mail order catalog called Wireless.  It has a lot of weird and funny gifts to buy and I discovered something called the "Rednek Wine Glass".  I knew immediately that I had to get it for Amir and his new hillbilly ways here in Kentucky.  It is basically a long-stemmed mason jar!  It even comes with a lid!!  I ordered him two for when he had company and I put them in a basket I made up with some quality moonshine, camo t-shirt, field and stream magazine, bbq sauces and rubs, deep fried pork skins, summer sausage, corn bread mix and a nice Kentucky Derby cigar!  I thought is was a great gift.....however, I am not sure if my co-workers from Kentucky thought it was as funny as I did!!  Amir really thought the glasses were great and mentioned he would enjoy them with Cathy when she was done breastfeeding.  Sometimes he doesn't understand the concept of TMI!!  But, he did put his new t-shirt on so he could have his picture taken beside Ricky his favourite hunter and then he cracked open the moonshine for all to try. Holy crap that burned.

Guest of honour so to speak.  That was dinner....geesh.

"Oh what was I thinking....damn peer pressure!"

Before the evening wrapped up Amir made a little speech thanking us for the gift and wishing us all a Merry Christmas.  He also thanked me in front of everyone for the work I did this past year and for committing to coming down when he asked. He said that all my work made a huge difference and that they wouldn't be as successful without me.  That was so great to hear and I was a little taken aback as he doesn't normally do those things.  That helps me leaving here since things did take a lot longer than I ever imagined they would.( Not that I hated having my time extended) But finally after all these months I have been able to see positive results for all the work I have put in and that is a good feeling and a good way to go home. There is still a lot of work to do and I will be back to help out every now and then....especially since things in Blenheim have started to slow down.....un huh...why am I going home then you ask?  Don't get me started!!
